The short version
- Mounjaro runs from ₦480,000 for the 2.5 mg starter pen to ₦880,000 for 15 mg.
- One pen is four weekly doses, so a pen is four weeks, not a calendar month.
- Prices follow the naira exchange rate. Any price list older than a month is decoration.
- A price far below this range is the clearest counterfeit signal in the Nigerian market.
Mounjaro is the most expensive GLP-1 medication sold in Nigeria, and the most requested. The price differs by dose, because a higher-strength pen contains more tirzepatide. That surprises people coming from medications that cost the same whatever the strength.

Why the price moves
Three things drive the naira figure, and only one of them is about the medicine.
- The exchange rate. Every pen in Nigeria is imported. When the naira moves, the landed cost moves with it, usually within days.
- Global supply. Tirzepatide demand has outstripped manufacturing since 2023. When supply tightens abroad, prices here rise before stock runs short.
- Dose. The jump from 10 mg to 12.5 mg is the steepest in the range. Plan for it before you escalate.
A pen is four weeks, not a month. Four weekly injections finish the pen. Over a calendar year that is 13 pens, not 12. People who budget by the calendar come up one pen short around month eleven.
What a suspiciously low price means
The single most reliable counterfeit signal in this market is a price well below everyone else's. Genuine tirzepatide has a floor set by what it costs to buy abroad and bring in cold. Nobody sells below that floor out of kindness.
If you are quoted ₦200,000 for a 10 mg pen, you are being offered one of three things: a counterfeit, a pen that has been left out of refrigeration and is being dumped, or nothing at all after you pay. The 2023 NAFDAC alert on falsified Ozempic in Nigeria involved pens that had been relabelled and filled with fast-acting insulin, which is dangerous in a way an inert fake is not.
Our guide to spotting a fake pen covers the physical checks that catch most of them.
How to compare prices properly
- Compare the same dose. A quote for 2.5 mg next to a quote for 10 mg tells you nothing.
- Ask what is included. Delivery, cold packaging and the courier leg are sometimes quoted separately and sometimes hidden.
- Ask when the price was set. A price quoted from a list built two months ago will be revised upward after you commit.
- Ask for the batch number and expiry before you pay, then check them against the pen when it arrives.
What else you will spend
The pen is most of the cost, but not all of it. Budget for needles if they are not included, a way to keep the pen at 2–8°C through power cuts, and higher protein grocery spending, which most people notice by the second month.
If the full ladder is out of reach, read our guide on how the three medications compare. Semaglutide costs less per pen and is a legitimate route for many people, even though the trial averages are lower.
